Programs that Drive Demand
The most significant demand driver in the market is the state’s aggressive Renewable Energy Standard, which requires regulated electric utilities to generate 15 percent of their energy from renewable resources by 2025. Therefore, some of the most unique programs to drive consumer and business demand exist in the region. Its two largest utility companies, Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) and Salt River Project (SRP) offer rebates and programs in the areas of wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, biogas and hydro – for both residents and businesses. For example, APS offers both upfront incentives for residential renewable energy installations as well as upfront and production-based incentives for business renewable energy investments.
Additionally, federal funding supports Arizona’s State Energy Program (SEP), which is partially reserved for the 21st Century Energy Demonstration Projects Grant Program. This program invests in and promotes energy efficient and renewable energy products manufactured in Arizona with reimbursable grants that fund demonstration projects. Together, Arizonan residents and business owners are incentivized to consider renewable energy as a smart, long-term, affordable option.
